Together, this season they will give you the unique opportunity to hear Beethovens integral work for piano and cello, in the course of two evenings in the beautiful acoustics that is the Kleine Zaal. On 1 mei 2019 you will hear the First Sonata opus 5, the Third Sonata opus 69 and the Fourth Sonata opus 102, as well as one of the three collections of variations that Beethoven wrote for this combination of instruments. This night, you will hear the variations on the theme “Bei Männern, welche Liebe fühlen” from Mozarts opera “Die Zauberflöte”. The theme of the variation cycle with which Nicolas and Ella will open their second recital on 8 May 2019 is from the same opera by Mozart: this time Beethoven takes off with Papageno’s witty aria “Ein Mädchen oder Weibchen”. The composer at the centre of the third cycle is Georg Friedrich Händel, much admired by Beethoven; he provided the theme for the Twelve variations on a theme from ‘Judas Maccabeus’. Then there are two sonatas left to complete the Beethoven-marathon by brother and sister Van Poucke: the Second Sonata opus 5 and the Fifth Sonata opus 102.
